You may be surprised at how many word play/literary devices are used. Some are more obvious than others, and some we don't even realize are there. But why? Why does and author use word play? Why does an author used literary devises , and why should they? I do believe word play is used many different ways, but for a very common purpose. I think wordplay is used to emphasize. Emphasize the point an author is trying to get across, the depth they are trying to conjure in their story,or the light joke they make a point with. Any way it is used wordplay will help an author better help his audience grasp and visualize the ideals or points that he or she is trying to get across.

most recognized of wordplay tactics i think is repetition. It definitely can be found every where and it usually is used to emphasize the given point at hand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYZ66Yel2xY The clip given is personification and at the end is an example of repetition. Hopefully you see that the repetition was used to emphasize the desperation of fox. http://thinkexist.com/quotation/be_who_you_are_and_say_what_you_feel_because/341011.html Dr.Seuss is probably one of the greatest examples of authors that use word play. In his writing one can very easily pick out the syntax (order of words in a sentence and his diction (choice of words). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0312528/quotes

Every author has something in common, wordplay. They all do it,some more than others, but it all boils down to one thing. They get their point across to thier audience, and the audience can now have a better appreciation for the writing, how its written, and why its written.
